OUR APPROACH

Three pillars driving our mission to transform palm oil in Burundi

01

Mechanized Processing

Replacing grueling manual extraction with motorized oil expellers and filtration units, producing virgin palm oil well below the 10.0 mg KOH/g international acidity limit.

02

Community-Centered Model

Farmers can sell fresh fruit at fair prices or pay a small service fee to use our equipment for their own extraction — partners in growth, not just suppliers.

03

Zero-Waste Circular Economy

Palm fibers and shells are converted into eco-friendly charcoal and nutrient-rich organic fertilizer, eliminating agricultural runoff and creating additional revenue streams.

Field research in Rumonge

The Problem We Are Solving

In Rumonge, Burundi — home to over 63% of the nation's palm groves — smallholder farmers rely on open fires, crude tools, and days of manual labor to extract palm oil. The result: serious health risks, low yields, environmental damage, and exploitation by middlemen who buy unbranded oil at rock-bottom prices.

  • 300,000 tons annual national demand vs. only 20,000 tons produced
  • Farmers exposed to smoke inhalation and chronic physical injuries
  • No access to formal markets or fair pricing

The Kayangana Smart Hub — bringing modern processing to the heart of Rumonge

Palm oil processing overview
Eco-charcoal and fertilizer byproducts

Our pilot Smart Hub in Rumonge requires a total initial capital of $5,000. Through the ACE Incubator at Ashesi University, we have already secured 30% of this capital. We are seeking the remaining 70% to procure motorized oil expellers, filtration units, and solar power infrastructure.

Market research in Burundi

A Market Ready for Disruption

Our founder conducted on-the-ground field research in Rumonge, spending time directly with artisanal producers to validate the severe inefficiencies in the current supply chain.

  • TAM: 300,000 tons/year national palm oil demand
  • SAM: Only 20,000 tons/year currently produced — a massive gap
  • SOM: Urban households in Bujumbura and formal retailers needing clean, branded, health-compliant virgin palm oil
